abstract The present invention relates to systems and methods for remediating water by means of photocatalytic oxidation. Specifically disclosed are photocatalytic systems comprising a cyclodextrin, a C8-C12 carboxylic acid and nanoparticles (NPs) of metals and/or of metal oxides. The photocatalytic systems developed include: α-cyclodextrin/nonanoic acid/TiO2 NPs/silver NPs (AgNPs), wherein the nanoparticles of TiO2 and of Ag are stabilised by the inclusion complex formed by α-cyclodextrin/nonanoic acid; and α-cyclodextrin/nonanoic acid/TiO2 NPs/mercaptoacetic acid/AgNPs, wherein the nanoparticles of TiO2 and of Ag are stabilised by the complex formed by α-cyclodextrin/nonanoic acid/mercaptoacetic acid. The invention also relates to methods for preparing the photocatalytic systems, and to the use of same to remediate polluted water.
