abstract An electronic ear tag [1] for use in the monitoring or management of livestock has a mass of 32 grams or less. The tag has a polycarbonate housing [3] made with front and rear portions [9] and [11] which are ultrasonically welded together, and has a short neck [7] and a prong [15] for attachment to the ear of an animal. A PCB [40] in the housing includes a microprocessor, a GNSS module and a LoRa transceiver and antenna. A gateway [103] for communication with the ear tag [1] and with the telephone network is also disclosed, as is an animal monitoring and/ or management system which uses the ear tag [1] and the gateway [103].
