The present invention provides an exhaust gas purification catalyst that has a base material and a catalyst layer 20, which is disposed on the base material and comprises a catalyst metal and a supporting material 21 for supporting the catalyst metal. The catalyst layer 20 fulfills both of the following conditions: (1) in a pore distribution curve measured with a mercury porosimeter, the largest pore volume peak is in the range of 1 to 10 μm pore diameter; and (2) in an electron microscopic image (with a 1000-fold magnification) of the surface of the catalyst layer 20, when the respective areas of multiple voids contained in the electron microscopic image are calculated, the standard deviation for the areas of the multiple voids is 30 μm2 or less. |
