abstract A negative electrode material for a lithium-ion secondary cell containing a carbon material in which: the average interplanar spacing d002 obtained by X-ray diffraction is 0.335 nm to 0.340 nm; the volume-average particle diameter is 1 μm to 40 μm; the maximum particle diameter is 74 μm or below; the standard deviation of the microscopic Raman R value at 30 arbitrary sites is 0.065 or below; and the carbon material has at least two exothermic peaks in a temperature range of 300°C to 1000°C inclusive in a differential thermal analysis carried out in an airflow.
