abstract | The present invention relates to a method for mass synthesis of carbon nanotubes using an alkali metal catalyst and carbon nanotubes synthesized thereby and, more specifically, to the synthesis of pure carbon nanotubes using an alkali metal catalyst based on a Group 1 element other than hydrogen, not using non-alkali metal catalysts such as iron, cobalt, and nickel. The subject matters of the present invention are a method for mass synthesis of carbon nanotubes using an alkali metal catalyst, and carbon nanotubes synthesized thereby, the method comprising the steps of: preparing a carbon source; forming an alkali metal catalyst precursor solution by dissolving, in a solvent, an alkali-metal-containing compound, which is based on an alkali metal; and spraying and heat-treating the alkali metal catalyst precursor solution while the carbon source is supplied, so that the alkali metal of the alkali metal catalyst precursor solution being sprayed agglomerates as a nanocatalyst, and the carbon source is dissolved by the nanocatalyst and crystallized to grow into carbon nanotubes and at the same time, the nanocatalyst is removed as the nanocatalyst vaporizes. |
