abstract |
The present invention relates to a nanoparticle which is characterized by a photoluminescent amorphous core formed from threonine and polyethylenimine (PEI), and wherein the surface of the core is functionalised with at least one carbohydrate. In one preferred embodiment, said carbohydrate is mannose. The present invention also relates to a method of synthesizing the nanoparticle, and the use of the nanoparticle and an antibody-conjugated silica-coated magnetic particle in a photoluminescence assay for quantifying bacterial cells in a sample. |
