The present invention provides: an organic thin film which is capable of achieving excellent electron injection properties and electron transport properties if used in an electron injection layer of an organic EL element; and a coating composition which is suitable for use in the production of this organic thin film; and a material for organic EL elements, said material serving as a starting material for this organic thin film or this coating composition. The present invention provides an organic thin film which is characterized by being: a single film that contains a first material which is a compound having a structure represented by general formula (1) and a second material which transports electrons; or a multilayer film that is composed of a film containing the first material and another film containing the second material. (In general formula (1), X1 and X2 may be the same or different, and each represents an optionally substituted nitrogen atom, oxygen atom, sulfur atom or a divalent linking group; L represents a direct bond or a p-valent linking group; n represents a number of 0 or 1; p represents a number from 1 to 4; q represents a number of 0 or 1, and in cases where p is 1, q is 0; R1 to R3 may be the same or different, and each represents a monovalent substituent; and m1 to m3 may be the same or different, and each represents a number from 0 to 3.) |
