abstract |
Provided is a magnetic recording medium that can exhibit excellent travel performance when in use. This magnetic recording medium is in the form of a tape, the magnetic recording medium having a base that has polyester as a main component, an underlayer provided on the base, and a magnetic layer provided on the underlayer. The kurtosis of the surface of the magnetic layer is 3.0 or greater, and the underlayer and the magnetic layer each include a lubricant containing a fatty acid and a fatty acid ester. The ratio of the fatty acid content to the fatty acid ester content in the lubricant is less than 0.6. |
