abstract The present invention concerns a transformed cell of bacteria of the genus Bacillus, more particularly В. subtilis, which produces hyaluronic acid, the cell comprising a chromosome which harbours a fusion of a heterologous hasA gene from S. equisimilis with a tuaD gene from В. subtilis under the control of the hybrid tandem promoter PrpsF-gsiB, and optionally also a gtaB gene under the control of the hybrid tandem promoter PrpsF-gsiB and/or the operon gcaD-prs under the control of the hybrid tandem promoter PrpsF-gsiB. The present invention also relates to a method for producing hyaluronic acid by using said transformed cell.
