abstract The present invention addresses the problem of providing a crystal of 2, 2'-bis(ethoxycarbonylmethoxy)-1, 1'-binaphthyl that is suitable as a resin starting material having excellent optical characteristics. Found, as a means for solving the problem, is a crystal of 2, 2'-bis(ethoxycarbonylmethoxy)-1, 1'-binaphthyl, especially a crystal of 2, 2'-bis(ethoxycarbonylmethoxy)-1, 1'-binaphthyl that has an endothermic peak top temperature within a specific range as determined by differential scanning calorimetry analysis, a specific peak in a powder X-ray diffraction peak pattern using a Cu-Kα ray, or a loose bulk density within a specific range.
