abstract The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a liquid crystal composition that meets the properties required for an n-type liquid crystal composition having a negative Δε and can ensure a high-speed response, a low drive voltage, good low-temperature storage stability, a wide viewing angle, and high transmittance when incorporated in a liquid crystal device such as a liquid crystal television; and a liquid crystal display element incorporating the same. The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition containing one or more compounds represented by formula (i) and one or more compounds represented by formula (ii), and a liquid crystal display element incorporating the liquid crystal composition.
