titleOfInvention Oligomeric nucleic acid molecule activating atoh1 gene and use thereof
abstract Disclosed are an oligomeric nucleic acid and the use thereof in treating hearing loss. Also disclosed is a small activating nucleic acid molecule for treating hearing loss. The small activating nucleic acid molecule may be a double-stranded or single-stranded RNA molecule targeting the promoter region of an ATOH1 gene, comprising a first nucleic acid strand and a second nucleic acid strand. The double-stranded RNA molecule targeting the promoter region of the ATOH1 gene comprises two nucleic acid strands of 16-35 nucleotides in length, and either of the nucleic acid strands has at least 75% homology or complementarity with a target selected from the promoter region of the ATOH1 gene. The method of using the small activating nucleic acid molecule and a pharmaceutical composition optionally containing a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier can up-regulate the expression of the ATOH1 gene and the protein in cells and can treat diseases or conditions related to insufficient or decreased expression of the ATOH1 gene.
