This document provides methods and materials related to the treatment of a lung condition, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), using a composition containing live Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), dead (or killed) Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), components of Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), vesicles (e.g., OMVs) of Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), or a combination thereof. For example, methods and materials for using a composition containing live Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), dead (or killed) Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), components of Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), vesicles (e.g., OMVs) of Prevotella (e.g., P. histicola and/or P. melaninogenica), or a combination thereof to treat a lung condition, such as COPD, are provided. |
