The present invention relates to Romo1 protein-derived antimicrobial peptides and, in particular, provides various peptides that each have an amino acid sequence of the α-helix 2 region of Romo1 protein and are confirmed for antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and multidrug-resistant bacteria, and an antimicrobial composition comprising the peptides. The Romo1-derived peptides of the present invention and variants thereof are superior to existing antibiotics and antibiotic peptides in terms of antibiotic capability against various types of bacteria and multidrug-resistant bacteria, and in particular, have antimicrobial activity against various bacteria in blood vessels and as such, are novel antibiotics that can be provided as substances for the prevention or treatment of a wide range of bacterial infectious diseases. Thus, compositions comprising the antimicrobial peptides of the present invention are expected to find applications with the aim of preventing or treating infectious diseases in various fields, such as for use as drugs, quasi-drugs, food and feed additives, and agricultural and cosmetic additives. |
