titleOfInvention | Method for producing spherical thermoplastic polymer particles |
abstract | The invention relates to a method for producing particles of a thermoplastic polymer, the particles being spherical, comprising: i) providing at least one thermoplastic polymer in the melted state; ii) providing an aqueous solution of at least one surface-active substance, the aqueous solution of the at least one surface-active substance having a temperature in the range of 100 to 300°C, preferably 150 to 250°C; iii) dispersing the at least one thermoplastic polymer according to (i) in the aqueous solution of the surface-active substance according to (ii), thus obtaining an aqueous solution comprising dispersed thermoplastic polymer; iv) cooling the aqueous solution comprising dispersed thermoplastic polymer obtained according to (iii) to a temperature below the solidification point of the thermoplastic polymer, thus obtaining a suspension comprising an aqueous solution and solid particles of the thermoplastic polymer suspended therein, the particles being spherical; v) separating the spherical particles of the thermoplastic polymer from the suspension obtained according to (iv); vi) optionally drying the spherical particles separated according to (v), the spherical particles separated according to (v) and optionally dried according to (vi) having a particle size distribution with a d[4,3] value of more than 10 μm and a d90,3 value of more than 20 μm. The invention also relates to spherical particles of a thermoplastic polymer, obtained or obtainable by said method, and to spherical particles of a thermoplastic polymer per se, the particles having a particle size distribution with a d[4,3] value of more than 10 μm and a d90,3 value of more than 20 μm. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of a spherical particle of a thermoplastic polymer, preferably in the form of a powder comprising spherical particles of a thermoplastic polymer, preferably having a particle size distribution with a d[4,3] value of more than 10 μm and a d90,3 value of more than 20 μm, for additive manufacturing methods. |
