abstract | There is provided an aerosol-generating article (10, 100) for producing an aerosol upon heating. The aerosol-generating article (10, 100) comprises a rod of aerosol-generating substrate (12) comprising an aerosol former, a hollow tubular support element (14) positioned immediately downstream of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate (12) and an aerosol-cooling element (16, 116, 216, 316) positioned downstream of the hollow tubular support element (14). The aerosol- generating substrate has an aerosol former content of greater than 10 percent on a dry weight 10 basis. The aerosol-cooling element (16, 116, 216, 316) comprises a hollow tubular segment (8), which comprises a peripheral wall (24) and a transverse wall (26) at a location between an upstream end and a downstream end of the hollow tubular segment (8), such that the hollow tubular segment (8) may define a first cavity (28) upstream of the transverse wall (26) and a second cavity (30) downstream of the transverse wall (26). The transverse wall (26) comprises 15 one or more transverse openings (32, 33) establishing a fluid communication between the first cavity (28) and the second cavity (30). The peripheral wall (24) comprises one or more peripheral openings (34, 36) located at one or more longitudinal positions away from the transverse wall (26) so that a fluid communication between the exterior of the hollow tubular segment (8) and at least one of the first cavity (2) and the second cavity (30) is established. |
