abstract The present invention provides: a transmissive screen including a light control layer, in which reflection scattering towards the video image source side is reduced to a practically sufficient extent; and a video image display device in which the transmissive screen is used. This transmissive screen (100a) is provided, in the sequence listed, with: a first transparent substrate (10a); a first transparent electrode layer (20a); a light control layer (30) including a liquid crystal compound, the light control layer (30) being capable of switching between a light-transmitting state and a light-scattering state according to the voltage applied; a second transparent electrode layer (20b); and a second transparent substrate (10b), the transmissive screen (100a) displaying, on the second transparent substrate (10b)-side surface, a video image projected on the first transparent substrate (10a)-side surface, wherein the light control layer (30) includes a liquid crystal compound having birefringence of 0.05-0.15, a refractive index adjustment layer (40b) is provided between the second transparent substrate (10b) and the second transparent electrode layer (20b), and an anti-reflection layer (50b) is provided on the opposite side of the second transparent substrate (10b) from the side at which the second transparent electrode layer (20b) is disposed.
