abstract Embodiments develop an apparatus, a method, and a computer program for influencing the respiration of a person. The apparatus (10) for influencing the respiratory musculature of a person (20) comprises a detection device (12) for detecting an electromyographic signal from the person; a device for influencing respiration (14); and a control device (16) for controlling the detection device (12) and the device for influencing respiration (14), wherein the control device (16) is embodied to determine information about a muscular state in the respiratory musculature of the person (20) on the basis of the electromyographic signal and wherein the control device (16) is further embodied to operate, on the basis of the information about the muscular state, the device for influencing respiration (14) with a training intensity in a time-restricted training mode.
