abstract | A method for producing a positive electrode active material for lithium ion secondary batteries, which comprises a mixing step for obtaining a tungsten mixture by heating and mixing starting materials that are a lithium nickel composite oxide and a tungsten compound powder that does not contain lithium, and a heat treatment step for subjecting the tungsten mixture to a heat treatment, and which is configured such that: the lithium nickel composite oxide contains Li, Ni and an element M; the ratio of the number of tungsten atoms to the total of the number of nickel atoms and the number of element M atoms contained in the lithium nickel composite oxide in the starting materials is from 0.05% by atom to 3.00% by atom (inclusive); the water content that is the ratio of water in the lithium nickel composite oxide and water in the starting materials is 3.0% by mass or more; and the temperature during the mixing step is from 30°C to 65°C (inclusive). |
