abstract The objective of the present invention is to provide a diverting agent with outstanding control in terms of solubility in water, and which, during a drilling method that uses hydraulic fracturing, is not readily soluble during initial closing of a crack in a well but dissolves in water, and can easily be removed after there is no longer a need for closing. The diverting agent according to the present invention contains a powder-form polyvinyl alcohol resin having an average particle diameter of 800-2000 μm.
