abstract The use of pharmaceutically active compounds for treating chronic lung diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is disclosed. The compounds include NMDA receptor antagonists, glutamate 2b receptor antagonists and sigma receptor agonists. In particular, the use of bromantane, ifenprodil, radiprodil, bemithyl and repirinast are effective in treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Methods of use thereof are also disclosed.
