abstract The invention relates to pigment chemistry, and particularly to the production of variants of pigments based on compounds that are substituted nickel dithiolene complexes with asymmetrical ligands. A method of producing a pigment for protective elements of multi-layered articles that is based on substituted nickel dithiolene complexes with asymmetrical ligands comprises producing 1-R 2 -3-R 1 -thiocarbamide, where R 1 is aryl, and R 2 is alkyl C 1 -C 18 , cycloalkyl, allyl, propargyl, aralkyl or aryl, wherein R 1 is not equal to R 2 . Next, it is reacted with oxalyl chloride to form 1-R 2 -3-R 1 -2-thioxo-imidazolidine-4,5-dione and introduced into a reaction with metallic nickel in the presence of Lawesson's reagent, and the target product is obtained. A pigment is obtained for protective elements of multi-layered articles that possesses high light resistance and good stability with respect to the effects of the environment and aggressive media.
