abstract | Provided is a titanium oxide which is represented by general formula H2Ti12O25 and in which the detected amount of alkali metals other than lithium is less than the measurement lower limit, as analyzed by means of ICP emission spectroscopy. This method for producing a titanium oxide has: a step for synthesizing a lithium titanate; a step for heat-treating the lithium titanate; a step for exchanging lithium/protons; and a step for heat-treating a proton exchanger. In the step for synthesizing lithium titanate, a titanium compound in a titanium compound-containing titanium raw material and a lithium compound in a lithium compound-containing lithium raw material are crystal-grown together and a lithium titanate is obtained. In the heat-treating step, the lithium titanate, the lithium titanate, obtained from the step for synthesizing the lithium titanate, is heat treated. In the step for exchanging lithium/proton, lithium in the heat-treated lithium titanate obtained from the heat-treating step is exchanged with protons. In the step for heat-treating a proton exchanger, the lithium titanate proton-exchanger obtained from the step for exchanging lithium/protons is heat-treated at a temperature of 200-600°C. |
