Surgical stapler buttress with tissue in-growth promotion |
abstract |
A buttress assembly (322) for use with a surgical stapled site has a buttress and an adhesive (320) on one side of the buttress. The buttress itself has a multi-layer construction with a mesh layer (326) on one side, a film layer (334) on the other side, and an adhesive film layer (332) in between the mesh layer and film layer. The mesh layer (326) is a knit material with multiple openings that provide space for and promote tissue ingrowth with the buttress. As such the buttress is oriented in use so that the mesh layer faces and contact the tissue at the surgically stapled site. Opposite to the mesh layer, the film layer faces away from the tissue at the surgically stapled site and acts as an adhesion barrier. |
