abstract The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating cellular senescence-associated diseases, containing homoharringtonine as an active ingredient. It is ascertained that a composition containing homoharringtonine as an active ingredient exhibits senolytic effects of selectively killing senescence-induced fibroblasts and renal tubular cells, whereas the composition shows senomorphic effects of restoring cell function and morphology in senescence-induced vascular endothelial cells, epidermal melanocytes and retinal pigment epithelial cells, and thus homoharringtonine can effectively prevent or treat senile eye diseases, tissue fibrosis diseases, atherosclerosis, osteoarthritis, degenerative brain diseases, chronic skin damage, obesity and diabetes, which are caused by cellular senescence, by acting differently depending on the type of cells, and can be provided as a composition for skin whitening and lifespan extension.
