abstract The present invention provides a method for synthesizing a prehydrolyzed polysilicate, wherein a polysilicate is used as a reactant in the synthesis of the prehydrolyzed polysilicate, and the total amount of water added in the reaction system is specified. Unlike conventional synthetic methods, in which an alkoxysilane-based monomer compound is used as a reactant, the use of a polysilicate as a reactant makes it possible to omit a condensation reaction, and thus the synthesis time can be significantly reduced, and production costs can also be reduced. Moreover, according to the synthetic method of the present invention, gelation reaction time and weight average molecular weight can be easily controlled, and a prehydrolyzed polysilicate having excellent storage stability and processability can be synthesized.
