abstract |
The present invention provides a thin polarizing plate with a retardation layer, said polarizing plate having excellent handling properties and excellent optical characteristics. A polarizing plate with a retardation layer according to the present invention comprises: a polarizing plate which comprises a polarizing film and a protective layer that is arranged on at least one side of the polarizing film; and a retardation layer. The polarizing film is configured of a polyvinyl alcohol resin film that contains a dichroic substance; and the polarizing film has a thickness of 8 μm or less, a single transmittance of 48% or more, and a degree of polarization of 85% or more. The retardation layer has an Re(550) of from 100 nm to 190 nm, with the value of Re(450)/Re(550) being 0.8 or more but less than 1. The angle between the slow axis of the retardation layer and the absorption axis of the polarizing film is from 40° to 50°. |
