abstract Provided is a method, for producing solid fuel, that uses woody biomass as a feedstock material, has reduced chlorine content and potassium content, is as pulverizable as coal, and can be mixed with coal and pulverized for use as fuel for a pulverized coal boiler. The solid fuel is produced via a method that includes: a step for washing pulverized woody biomass, which has a size of 50 mm or less, with at least 1.5 L/kg (absolute dry weight of pulverized woody biomass) of water; a step for drying the pulverized woody biomass after being washed with water; and a step for roasting the dried, pulverized woody biomass in conditions of 10% or less oxygen concentration and a material temperature of 240–350°C.
