The present invention relates to a method for the chemical conversion of sugars or sugar alcohols to polyols/glycols, wherein the conversion of sugar or sugar alcohols is carried out by hydrogenolysis in the presence of a catalyst containing at least one metal on a carbon carrier, wherein a carbon carrier doped with oxygen and/or phosphor and/or boron is used as a catalyst carrier. The present invention relates to a method for the chemical conversion of sugars or sugar alcohols to glycols, which allows the production of glycols with higher selectivity and reduces the formation of lactic acid as a by-product. |
