abstract The invention relates to a method for producing methanol from a carbonaceous feedstock, in which method synthesis gas is generated therefrom in a synthesis gas generation unit, the synthesis gas is converted into methanol in a methanol synthesis unit and the obtained reaction mixture is reprocessed in stages in order to isolate the methanol. Using an oxygen-containing gas, the valuable components carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, dimethyl ether and methane are burnt off the streams separated during the isolation of the methanol, the carbon dioxide of the resulting flue gas is separated in a carbon dioxide recovery unit and is returned to the syngas generation unit and/or to the methanol synthesis unit.
