abstract | Provided are an agent for suppressing the increment of a blood glucose level, a diabetes preventing agent and a food composition, which are novel uses of a carotenoid mixture derived from a microalga. An agent for suppressing the increment of a blood glucose level, a diabetes preventing agent and a food composition, each of which contains a carotenoid mixture derived from a microalga as an active ingredient, wherein the carotenoid mixture contains diatoxanthin as the main component thereof. The carotenoid mixture derived from a microalga is, for example, a carotenoid mixture derived from euglena, which contains diatoxanthin as the main component thereof, and also contains zeaxanthin and alloxanthin. The agent can be used for suppressing the increment of a blood glucose level through the ingestion together with, for example, a high-GI food. |
