abstract | Provided is an oil-in-water type emulsion of an actinic-ray-curable resin composition, the emulsion being suitable for forming thermal recording materials which have high transparency and high glossiness and are excellent in terms of the storage stability of portions colored for recording and suitability for printing with thermal heads, the emulsion being produced without using any emulsifier having a nonylphenol structure, which exerts adverse influences on the human body and the environment. A thermal recording material obtained by applying said oil-in-water type emulsion is also provided. The oil-in-water type emulsion of an actinic-ray-curable resin composition includes a resin (A) having an ethylenically unsaturated group in the molecule, a reactive surfactant (B) represented by formula (1) or (2), and a pigment ingredient (C) having an average particle diameter of 5 μm or smaller. (In formula (1), R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, A represents an alkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and m indicates the average number of moles added and is in the range of 2-80.) (In formula (2), n1 indicates the number of the substituents and is 1-3 on average, n2 indicates the average number of moles added and is in the range of 0-100, and T represents a hydrogen atom or an anionic hydrophilic group selected from among -(CH2)a-SO3M, -(CH2)b-COOM, -PO3M2, and -CO-CH2-CH-(SO3M)-COOM. In these formulae, a and b are each a number of 0-4 and the M moieties each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline-earth metal atom, an ammonium residue, or an alkanolamine residue.) |
