abstract A method for displaying a colour image on the screen of a display using two colours and white light with input colour coordinates of the image (R, G, B) being converted into an opponent colour space W0C1C2 of human colour vision, which involves: subjecting the colour data of subpixels of an input image to colour separation, resulting in the generation of a first chromaticity coordinate C1 in the form of the difference between the red (R) and green (G) colour pair of a pixel; taking С1 as the horizontal axis of a chromaticity diagram of the colours of the image and determining the sign of the differential chromaticity coordinate С1; generating a second chromaticity coordinate С2 in the form of the difference between the yellow (Y0) and blue (B) colour pair of the pixel; adopting С2 as the vertical axis of the chromaticity diagram of the colours of the image and determining the sign of the differential chromaticity coordinate С2; determining an achromatic coordinate W0 of a white light subpixel by separating a minimal equal number min(Y0,B) of yellow and blue colours; obtaining an achromatic coordinate W0 of a subpixel of white light and two chromaticity coordinates of colour subpixels; repeating the process for all of the pixels of the colour image; obtaining output colour data for all of the colours of the image, which can be used to display the colour image on the screen of a display.
