abstract The pre-expanded polyamide beads of the present invention are characterized by giving a DSC curve when heated with a differential scanning calorimeter from 30°C to 280°C under the conditions of a heating rate of 10 °C/min, the DSC curve having a maximum endothermic-peak temperature of 150-275°C and a maximum endothermic-peak width of 30-80°C, the maximum endothermic-peak width corresponding to the difference between an extrapolated melting initiation temperature, which is the temperature corresponding to the intersection of a baseline and a tangent to the curve at a lower-temperature-side inflection point in the maximum endothermic peak, and an extrapolated melting termination temperature, which is the temperature corresponding to the intersection of the baseline and a tangent to the curve at a higher-temperature-side inflection point in the maximum endothermic peak, the baseline being a straight line obtained by approximating the portion of the DSC curve which is located on the higher-temperature side of the maximum endothermic peak and which indicates that the melting has been completed.
