abstract The present disclosure provides a base material for liquid filters, the base material being composed of a polyolefin microporous membrane, wherein: the average flow pore size in a pore size distribution of the polyolefin microporous membrane as measured by a half-dry method based on gas-liquid phase substitution is 1-50 nm; the calcium content in the polyolefin microporous membrane is 2000 ppb or less; and the ratio of the tensile elongation in the machine direction (MD) to the tensile elongation in the transverse direction (TD) perpendicular to the machine direction for the polyolefin microporous membrane is 0.47-0.96 (exclusive of 0.96), or 1.25-7 (exclusive of 1.25).
