abstract |
A biofilm culturing device (1) comprises a biofilm culturing chamber (30) having a chamber opening (31) and configured to comprise a microbial biofilm. The biofilm culturing device (1) also comprises a flow inlet channel (10) connected between an inlet port (15) and the chamber opening (31 ) and enters the chamber opening (31) at an angle (a) selected within the range of from 0° up to 30°. The biofilm culturing device (1) comprises a flow outlet channel (20) connected between an outlet port (25) and the chamber opening (31). An angle (γ) between the flow inlet channel (10) and the flow outlet channel (20) is selected within the range of from 0° up to 90°. A fluid flow applied between the inlet port (15) and the outlet port (25) is capable of shearing off a selected layer of the microbial biofilm in the biofilm culturing chamber (30) and transporting the selected layer into the flow inlet channel (10) or the flow outlet channel (20). |
