abstract | Provided are a carbon fiber bundle and a method for manufacturing a sheet molding compound, whereby a sheet molding compound can be manufactured from which a molded article having high tensile strength or tensile elasticity, and mechanical strength such as bending strength, bending elasticity, and the like is obtained. This method for manufacturing a sheet molding compound includes impregnating, with a matrix resin composition, a plurality of chopped carbon fiber bundles obtained by cutting a long carbon fiber bundle, the fiber length of the chopped carbon fiber bundles being 1-60 mm, and the bulk density of the carbon fiber bundles calculated by a specific method (I) is 60-400 g/L. |
