abstract |
The invention relates to a colloidal dispersion comprising a liquid dispersion medium (M) and negatively charged plate-like tactoids (T) arranged in a preferred direction in the dispersion medium (M), wherein the liquid dispersion medium (M) contains one or more organic polymers selected from the group consisting of anionically and/or non-ionically stabilised organic polymers, water and optionally one or more organic solvents; and wherein the tactoids (T) consist of an exfoliated inorganic layer material and have a plurality of individual plates which are arranged parallel to one another and have a layer thickness in the range of 0.5 to 1.5 nm and an average layer spacing in the range of 5 to 50 nm; wherein the average aspect ratio of the individual plates constituting the tactoids is 100 to 1000; the exfoliated inorganic layer material has been exfoliated without the use of an exfoliating agent or using a monomeric exfoliating agent; and the weight of the inorganic layer material without the exfoliating agent is 2 to 35 wt.% relative to the total weight of the colloidal dispersion. The invention also relates to the use of the colloidal dispersion for preparing a coating composition, the thus-obtained composition, and a substrate coated therewith. |
