titleOfInvention | Methods and compositions for the treatment of sjögren's syndrome |
abstract | The present invention relates to methods and compositions for the treatment of Sjögren's syndrome (SS). To date effective therapy is not available and treatment has been mainly symptomatic. The inventors investigated the implication of TLR7 in the development of SS using as animal models TLR8ko that spontaneous develop systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) due to increased TLR7 signaling. The inventors found that TLR8ko mice developed spontaneous SS. Interestingly, double TLR7/8ko mice did not show any signs of SS. These data provide evidence for the pivotal role of TLR7 in the development of SS and salivary gland inflammation. |
