Provided is a copolymer for antifouling coating compositions capable of forming antifouling coating films which can exhibit satisfactory long-term antifouling performance even in bays where the adhesion of fouling organisms is considerably severe and which have excellent seawater resistance. The present invention provides an antifouling coating composition which comprises a copolymer P and an antifouling chemical, wherein the copolymer P is a copolymer of a monomer (a), a monomer (b), a monomer (c), and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (d) which is none of the monomers (a) to (c), the monomer (a) being represented by general formula (1), the content of the monomer (a) being 25-50 mass% with respect to the total mass of the monomers (a) to (d), the monomers (b) and (c) having n-octanol/water partition coefficients P, the common logarithms logP of which are 0.00-0.59 and 0.60-0.95, respectively, and the monomer (c) having only one unsaturated bond.
