abstract | Provided herein are methods and kits for the diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer based on microRNA signatures in extracellular vesicles such as exosomes and shed microvesicles. In an embodiment, a method provided herein comprises executing the step of determining the expression of one or more miRNAs disclosed herein in a biological sample obtained from the subject, wherein the biological sample comprises one or both of exosomes and shed microvesicles, wherein the level of expression of the one or more miRNAs, or a statistical value(s) derived therefrom, in the exosomes or shed microvesicles derived from the subject, relative to the level of expression, or a statistical value(s) derived therefrom, of the corresponding one or more miRNAs in one or more cancer-free reference samples is indicative of the presence of colorectal cancer in the subject. |
