abstract Provided is a cemented carbide that has a first hard phase comprising tungsten carbide particles and a binding phase including Co, wherein the ratio Nt/Na is at least 0.9, where: Na represents a total number of WC/WC interfaces, a WC/WC interface being defined to be a region in an arbitrarily defined surface or in an arbitrarily defined cross-section of the cemented carbide where the distance X between the respective surfaces of adjacent tungsten carbide particles having an opposing surface length of at least 100 nm is at most 5 nm; and Nt represents the number of the WC/WC interfaces where the distance X is 1-5 nm, while the Co atom concentration at the WC/WC interface is higher than the mean value of Co atom concentrations inside the tungsten carbide particles.
