titleOfInvention | Retina-cleaning instrument |
abstract | A retina-cleaning instrument for cleaning the retina of an eye comprises a retina-cleaning member that is configured and arranged to allow to be brought into contact with the retina of an eye when the retina-cleaning instrument has been inserted into the eye, and to allow wiping the retina with the cleaning member. The retina-cleaning member comprises a polymer hydrogel, optionally a cross-linked polymer hydrogel, and can be configured as a cleaning pad or a cleaning tip. A distal end of the retina-cleaning instrument holds the retina-cleaning member. The polymer hydrogel can be a hydrophilic polymer hydrogel, optionally selected from: polyvinyl alcohol, PVA; cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol, a neutral synthetic polymer such as a derivative of poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate), a poly-(ethylene glycol), a block copolymer of PEG, such as a triblock copolymer of poly-ethylene oxide and poly-(propylene oxide), referred to as PEO-b-PPO-b-PEO, a degradable PEO, a poly-(lactic acid), a copolymer of hydroxyethyl methacrylate monomers and methyl methacrylate, polyvinyl acetal, a regenerated cellulose, a collagen, such as a natural occurring collagen, hyaluronic acid, such as hyaluronic acid from a natural source, fibrin, an alginate, an agarose, chitosan and a polysaccharide, such as a polysaccharide from a natural source. |
