abstract Provided is a screening method with which it is possible to determine whether a subject composition promotes CRE-related CREB-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity or CRE-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity. This screening method, whereby a composition is screened to determine whether the composition promotes CRE-related CREB-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity or CRE-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity, comprises: a step for measuring long term memory learning transcriptional factor activity, wherein the CRE-related CREB-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity or CRE-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity of the composition is measured in the presence of an inhibitor selected from the group consisting of PD98059, U0126, GF109203X and H89; and a step for determining CREB-dependent long term memory learning transcriptional factor activity, wherein the CRE-related CREB-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity or CRE-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity of the composition obtained in the step for measuring long term memory learning transcriptional factor activity is compared with the CRE-related CREB-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity or CRE-dependent long term memory gene transcriptional activity of nobiletin at a prescribed concentration so as to determine whether the activity of the composition is higher than the activity of nobiletin.
