abstract An apparatus for conjointly measuring oxygen utilization and tissue stress includes an imaging system and a computer processor operably coupled to the imaging system. The computer processor is configured to control the imaging system to apply a sequence of pulses to a tissue of a subject. The computer processor also acquires oxygen utilization data and stress data in response to the pulse sequence. The computer processor further determines a quantity of strain on the subject's tissue based, at least in part, on the stress data and an oxygen utilization amount of the subject's tissue based, at least in part. part, oxygen utilization data.
