abstract The present invention relates to an electroluminescent element having a high emission efficiency. The electroluminescent element contains first, second and third organic compounds. The first organic compound has the function of converting the triplet excitation energy into light emission. The second organic compound further has a benzofuropyrimidine backbone or a benzothienopyrimidine backbone. The third compound is a fluorescent compound. The light emitted by the electroluminescent element is the light emitted by the third organic compound which receives the excitation energy from the first organic compound or an exciplex formed by the first and second organic compounds.
