The present invention relates to cotton plants having reduced levels of gossypol in the seed and, in other embodiments, the invention relates to cotton plants having increased gossypol levels in the leaves. The invention also relates to methods of reducing gossypol content in seeds of a cotton plant by down-regulating CGF2 expression and, in some embodiments, expressing CGF1 and and / or CGF3 in the plant as well as methods for increasing the gossypol content in the leaves of a cotton plant by tissue-specific overexpression of CGF2 and, in some embodiments, CGF1 and / or CGF3 in the plant. |
