abstract |
The invention relates to polymers useful in the formulation of pigment dispersing agents. These polymers can be prepared from a glycidyl intermediate where said glycidyl intermediate is obtained by reacting a nucleophilic initiator with an epichlorohydrin. The intermediate is then reacted with an aralkylated phenol to obtain a hydroxy-functional hydrophobic compound and the alkoxylation of the hydrophobic compound gives the desired polymer. In another approach, the polymer is prepared by reacting the nucleophilic initiator with an aralkylated phenyl glycidyl ether to obtain the hydroxy-functional hydrophobic compound, which is then alkoxylated. Pigment dispersions comprising said polymers are further described. The ease of manufacture of the polymers according to the invention, the diversity of their structures, and the desired performance of their attributes to disperse a wide range of organic and inorganic pigments meet the growth demand of the industry. Agricultural applications of said polymers are further described. |
