abstract |
The present invention relates to activity-based probes that can be used to selectively identify and characterize enzymes that are involved in different phases of xenobiotic metabolism in a host and its microbiota population (s). The specifically described activity-based probes mark only their target active enzymes involved in xenobiotic metabolism and thus allow a measurement of the functional activity of the actual protein rather than the transcription or abundance of proteins. Activity-based probes also allow multimodal profiling of these active enzymes. The invention also relates to methods of preparing the activity-based probes and methods exemplified for their use. |
