titleOfInvention SOFT TOUCH RETURN MECHANISM BY PROGRESSIVE CLICK
abstract The present invention relates to a flexible mechanism for extending a rod in a hand-operated instrument and providing tactile feedback by clicking, such as in particular in a flexible surgical grasping device. The flexible mechanism includes an inner shaft that includes an upper slot and a lower slot extending through a section of the stem, which forms a generally S-shaped cut in the stem, so that when the ends of the stem are pulled at the level of the S-shaped shape, the latter allows extension of the rod in the axial direction by flexible bending; the mechanism comprising a notch disposed on the outer surface of the shaft, adjacent a respective slot opening and on the proximal side of the opening, and an outer sleeve enclosing the inner shaft, the sleeve having on its inner surface one or more grooves or teeth facing said notch on the rod surface, such that when the rod is extended, the notch engages with said groove or tooth to create tactile feedback by clicking.
